The Pressie Ceremony
The Pressie Ceremony
This has been a family tradition for a very long time dating from
Christmases at the grandparent's house when a lot of relations gathered for the festivities.
The youngest member first selects a present from under the tree, reads the gift tag and delivers the gift to the appropriate recipient who is next to collect one from the tree. This can take some time and you have to be patient and try to wait until the end before opening any parcels. This is vital with children as parents will not know who sent what.
At the heart of the ceremony is "the reading of the tags". Humour and innuendo is required and brief messages "To You From Me" not well received! The children quickly cotton on to this tradition and there is always a lot of laughter. For those who get bored and wish that someone would be brave enough to abolish The Pressie Ceremony there is always a good supply of Buck's Fizz!!
